Most people aren’t aware of the deliciousness of sweet potato cheesecake. Sweet Potato Pies have been around my family as long as I can remember. Sweet Potato Pies reminds me of Fall and winter and there is no other vegetable that says “fall or winter” quite like the sweet potatoes. During Thanksgiving, my Aunts would make them every year. We would have several pies around the dessert table.
In a former role, I worked at The Cheesecake Factory. Not only do I love cheesecake but I learned all there is to know about them. Well, about 8 years ago I thought about making a Sweet Potato Cheesecake. I wondered how it would taste if I mixed two of my favorite dishes together and I am so grateful I did!

One of my crew members on a show I was working on asked me to make this Sweet Potato Cheesecake. Not only had he never tasted such a cake he had never seen one before! Needless to say it was gone so fast people were asking for me to make them personal orders. This so popular during the winter because most people have never had it and can’t believe how good it taste. This cake is so moist and so delicious!
Sweet Potato Cheesecake Preparation
I Love going to Sprouts to pick out fresh sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are characterized by yellow or orange flesh, coated by a thin skin that can be white, yellow, orange, red, or purple. I Love to pick the firm bright orange color yams. I clean and then boil them until the center is soft. I add butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange and lemon zest, brown and white sugar, honey, whipping cream, and lot’s of Holiday Love all blended together. After that is prepared I make the cheesecake mix. Eggs, sugar, vanilla, and cream cheese. The crust on this Sweet Potato Cheesecake is not your typical graham cracker crust instead it is made from Vanilla Wafers. Vanilla Wafers give it such a warm taste that compliments the sweet potato and the cheesecake.
Keep in mind this is a layer cheesecake. A vanilla wafer crust, cheesecake, and sweet potato cheesecake, topped with homemade whip cream and Carmel.
After the cheesecake has baked for an hour and cooled I top it off with homemade whip cream and a drizzle of Carmel to seal in the goodness.
How Does It Taste?
This Sweet Potato Cheesecake is my favorite holiday cake so far. It’s so moist and delicious that it just warms your heart just eating it. Last year I had so many requests to make this it was my biggest year on baking. Some people have never heard of a Sweet Potato Cheesecake but when they taste Momma D’s they go crazy and the orders start coming in.
Many people have told me that this cheesecake is the best cheesecake they ever had!
